The region of Las Terrazas has one of the richest fauna of the island with up to 50% of the national endemic birds and 30% of other vertebrates, bats, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects such as aphids.

The rich bird fauna is composed of mainly the Tocororo (Cuban Trogon - National bird of Cuba), the nightingale, the goatheard (Spindalis Zena), the Cartacuba, the Zunzun (Cuban Emerald) or Colibri, the Sabanero, the Pitirre (Kingbird), the Chinchilla and the trush. During the winter season, Las Terrazas becomes a refuge for over 20 species of migratory birds.

The mamals in Las Terrazas are represented by native species such as La Hutia Conga (Capromys Pilorides), the Hutia Carabali (Capromys Prehensillis) and bats: Pteronotus parnelli parnelli, the Artibeus iamaicensis paruipes, Stenederma falacatum, Lasiurus boreaslis pfeifferi and the Eumops perotis gigas.

To complete the local fauna, 13 species of lizards, 10 of which are endemic to Cuba and three regional species can be found: The harmless Maja de Santamaria and various species of amphibians such as the Ranita Cubana (Sminthilus limbatus), the second smallest in the world.
